Summary of Allegations

The Central Government has received information regarding registration of a case by DRI, Siliguri Regional Unit, under section 135 of customs Act, 1962 read with sections 489B & 489C of the Indian Penal Code relating to the arrest of one person namely Golam Martuja @Shajatur Rahman r/o village Jagadishpur, PO Jadupur, District Malda, West Bengal on 08.01.2020 from the bus stop of Bihar Mor at Bagdogra area on NH-27 and seizure of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) having face value of Rs. 4,01,000/- (200xRs. 2000 and 2xRs.500) from his possession. Currency Note Press, Nashik in its preliminary examination report has confirmed that 98 notes of FICN seized in denomination of Rs.2000/- are of "High Quality" Counterfeit Notes;

The Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, CTCR Division, North Block, New Delhi vide order F. No. 11011/25/2020/NIA dated 09.03.2020, issued as per provision of sub-section (5) of section 6 read with section 8 of the NIA Act, 2008, is of the opinion that Scheduled offence under NIA Act, 2008 has been committed and, having regard to the gravity of the offence and likelihood of cross border network active in circulation of FICN, directed the NIA to take up the investigation of the case no. 16/CL/IMP/DRI/SLG/2019-20 dated 08.01.2020 of DRI, Siliguri, Regional Unit, District Darjeeling, West Bengal
