Case Title

Kalamassery Bus Burning Case, Kerala

As per Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs order No.11034/31/2009-IS-IV dated 24/12/2009, National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation of FIR No 469/2005 dated 09/09/2005 of Kalamassery Police Station, Ernakulum district, and re-registered the case on 22/10/2010 at NIA Police Station, New Delhi as RC-05/2010/NIA/DLI under sections 120(B), 121(A), 364, 323, 506 (ii), 436 & 34 of IPC, section 27 of Arms Act and section 4 of PDPP Act.

Summary of Allegations

On 09/09/2005, at about 09.30 PM, the accused persons hijacked and set ablaze a transport bus of the Government of Tamil Nadu plying between Ernakulam and Salem within the jurisdiction of Police Station Kalamassery, demanding the release of their accomplices who were lodged in Coimbatore Jail at that time

Present Status

Total 14 accused persons were involved in this case. Investigation was completed and charge sheet filed before the Hon’ble Special Court for Trial of NIA Cases, Ernakulam on 17/12/2010 against 13 accused. Accused Abdul Rahim S/o Saidu, who was killed in encounter at J&K, has not been charge sheeted. Trial is yet to be scheduled.
