As per Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs order No. 11011/42/2015-IS.IV dated 29/07/2015, National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of FIR No. 947/2015 dated 05/07/2015 of Vizhanjam Police Station, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and re- registered the case on 31/07/2015 at NIA Police Station, Kochi as RC-01/2015/NIA/KOC under sections 3 & 7 of Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of Fishing by Foreign Vessels) Act 1981 and Section 3(1) (g) of The Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of maritime Navigation and Fixed Platforms on Continental Shelf Act, 2002.

Summary of Allegations

On 03/07/2015, a foreign boat named “FV BAROOKI” with 12 foreigners on board was intercepted by Indian Cost Guard from the Exclusive Economic Zone of India off Kerala Coast without any license or permit and with an intention to commit criminal offence. 

Present Status

Final report was submitted against A-1 on 14.03.2016.  Hon'ble NIA Special Court, Ernakulam convicted A-1 u/s 10 and 14 of Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of Fishing by Foreign Vessels) Act, 1981 and imposed a fine of Rupees 1 lakh besides confiscating the seized Vessel. Final Judgement pronounced on 04.04.2016- by convicting 01 accused person.
